Replacement of Hank Hornsveld Memorial Trestle

OFFICIAL TRESTLE RE-DEDICATION

On Tuesday, October 25, 2022 members of OCME, members of the Hornsveld family, and Costa Mesa City Officials re-dedicated the Hank Hornveld trestle. Through generous donors, club members, and, most importantly, the public, funds were raised for the project.

Thank you to anyone and everyone who helped to keep one of the best features of the railroad up and running for years to come.

TRESTLE CONSTRUCTION

The replacement of Hank Hornsveld Memorial Trestle at Fairview Park required a Herculean effort for O.C. Model Engineers. After 30 years, the bridge that had carried well over 100,000 riders during its lifetime was deteriorating. The wooden trestle needed replacing and members of OCME put in the time and effort to replace it so it will last another 30 years and carry even more passengers.

Working on the Hank Hornsveld Memorial Trestle

Long-time Costa Mesa resident Hank Hornsfeld was honored with the Costa Mesa Mayor’s Award at the March 19, 2013 City Council meeting for his countless contributions to the city.
